Rides, errands & companionshipappointments, groceries, pharmacy

More than a ride.

Getting to the doctor is only half of it. The harder part is remembering what was said: the medication that changed, the follow-up that got scheduled, the test that was ordered. That's where a nurse makes the difference.

  • Door-to-door pickup and return, with a steadying hand in and out of the vehicle
  • A licensed registered nurse with you the entire time
  • Check-in and paperwork handled for you
  • Notes taken during your appointment, with your permission
  • A quick pharmacy stop on the way home, arranged ahead of time
  • A written summary sent to you and the family member you choose
  • Appointment waiting counts within your included time, and we'll give you an estimated total before you book
  • Your cane, walker, or rollator rides along

How it works

  1. 1

    Call or text

Tell us the date, time, and location of the appointment. Please give us 48 hours' notice when you can. Same-day and next-day rides depend on availability.

  2. 2

    Quick intake

We go over a short intake form, your emergency contact, and who in your family should receive the appointment summary.

  3. 3

    Appointment day

Your Steady Path escort arrives at your door, drives you there, stays with you, and brings you home safely.

  4. 4

    Family stays informed

A written summary of what the doctor said, any medication changes, and any follow-ups goes out the same day.

A nurse writes notes on a small pad while an older man speaks in a medical office waiting area.

For families who can't be there.

If you live out of town or can't miss work, you shouldn't have to wonder how Mom or Dad's appointment went. With your loved one's written permission, you'll get a clear same-day summary, and you can call us directly with questions.

Everything discussed at the appointment stays confidential and is shared only with the family contact your loved one designates in writing.

Who we serve

Adults who can walk on their own, with or without a cane, walker, or rollator, and can get in and out of a standard vehicle seat with a steadying hand. A folding manual wheelchair can ride in the cargo area if you can transfer into the car seat yourself.

Common trips include doctor and specialist visits, cataract and outpatient procedures, imaging and lab work, dialysis, infusion, therapy, and hospital discharge pickups.

What we don't provide

  • Emergency transportation. For emergencies, call 911
  • Transport for anyone who must stay seated in a wheelchair or scooter, or stretcher transport
  • Lifting or bearing a client's weight
  • Hands-on personal care such as bathing or toileting
  • Medical treatment, medical advice, or giving medications
  • Billing to Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance

Need wheelchair-accessible transport? We're glad to point you to a provider who offers it.

Meet Brian Daugherty, RN, BSN

Owner & registered nurse

I started Steady Path because I've seen how much easier a medical visit is when someone calm and knowledgeable is in the room, someone who knows what questions to ask and writes down the answers.

Every Steady Path visit follows the standards I set as a nurse: a clean and comfortable vehicle, a calm and attentive escort, careful notes, and a steady hand from your front door to the exam room and back.

Questions families ask

Does Medicare pay for this?

No. Medicare does not cover routine rides to appointments. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a limited number of rides through their own vendor, but those benefits are capped. Steady Path is a private-pay service.

Will you actually come into the exam room?

Yes, with your permission. That's the whole point. If you'd rather we wait in the lobby, that's completely fine, and we'll still handle check-in and the ride.

What if the appointment runs long?

Each service includes a set amount of time, and appointment waiting counts toward it. After a 10-minute grace period, extra time is $55 an hour, billed in 15-minute increments ($13.75). If you expect a long visit, tell us when you book and we'll give you an estimate. We'll never leave you in the middle of a nurse-attended appointment.

My mother uses a wheelchair. Can you help?

Often, yes. If she can move from the chair into a car seat with a steadying hand and ride with a seat belt on, we can fold a manual wheelchair into the cargo area. We can't transport someone who must stay seated in the chair or uses a power chair, because our vehicle has no ramp or tie-downs.

Will you lift her?

No, and that's a firm line for safety. We steady and guide, but we never take a client's weight. If someone can't bear their own weight during a transfer, they need a two-person team and a lift.

I live out of state. How will I know what happened?

You'll get a written summary the same day, listing what the doctor said, any medication changes, and any follow-up that was scheduled. You can call us directly with questions.

How do scheduling, cancellations, and payment work?

Please book at least 48 hours ahead. Same-day and next-day requests depend on availability. You can cancel or reschedule free of charge at least 24 hours before pickup. With less than 24 hours' notice, the fee is 50% of the base price. If we've already left for pickup, or you can't be reached 15 minutes after pickup time, the full base price applies. We look at emergencies and facility cancellations case by case. You can call or text to cancel any day, including Sundays. Payment is due at the time of service.
